Answer to Question 1

Observing children is one of the major jobs of a teacher. The teacher needs to be aware of the indicators of maltreatment in order to notice a problem. The teacher should observe the child at different times of day and in different settings and record the observations in note form. The
teacher should record behavior, conversation, and physical signs. This type of anecdotal record may signify a pattern that indicates maltreatment is present. It may also indicate that there is no pattern present, and that what the teacher noticed about a bruise and limp might have been the result of a fall. The records should be kept in the child's health record in case there is need to refer to them again. If a teacher is still uncertain, he or she should talk to others on the staff to see what they think. In the end, if the teacher reasonably suspects that maltreatment has occurred, it must be reported.

Answer to Question 2

Example: The curriculum would be understandable for the children and would relate to that age group. For example, three-year-olds might understand about areas of the body that shouldn't be touched through the use of puppets in a puppet show. Parents would be included in the curriculum plan and would be invited to attend the show, as well as receive letters and tip sheets about child abuse prevention.
