Fewer than half of teens eat the recommended amounts of healthy foods (fruits, vegetables, dairy and whole grains) each day.
More than 2/3 eat too much saturated fat, sugars, and sodium, putting them at risk for a number of diseases such as heart disease.
According to one survey, only 27 met the goal of 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise per day.
Only about half met the objective for muscle strengthening exercise per day.
Recommendations: more meals at home and fewer fast food meals, healthier food choices in school menus and vending machines, provide healthy snacks in the home, more school and after-school physical activity programs and educating families on the value of exercising together.
