Answer to Question 1

Answer: The Shigalike toxin of E. Coli O157:H7 has an affinity for the endothelial cells of the vessels in the glomerulus. The toxin is absorbed from the intestine, the B subunits bind to Gb3 receptors on the cells, and the A subunit inhibits the protein synthesis. This results in cell death.
