An estimated one-third of children are overweight or obese. Children who are overweight are more likely to develop cardiovascular disease, diabetes, bone and joint disease, sleep apnea, and face social discrimination which can lead to poor self-esteem and depression. Nurses can design and implement nutrition, healthy eating, and physical activities policies and standards in schools in order to address this health crisis.
