Answer to Question 1

Upon discharge from the hospital:
BEE = 66 + 13.7  wt + 5  ht - 6.8  age
= 66 + 13.7  72.7 + 5  180 - 6.8  25
= 66 + 996.4 + 900 - 170 = 1792

1792  1.2 = 2150 kcals 72.7 g  .8 = 58 g

240 cc  4 = 960 cc 2 kcals/cc = 1920 kcals
.96 l  83.7 g/l = 80 g of protein

2150 - 1920 = 230 He is receiving 230 kcals less than his estimated needs but is gaining weight. He is receiving 22 more grams of protein than estimated needs.

Answer to Question 2

Garlic contains ajoene which is an antithrombotic agent that can inhibit the aggregation of the blood platelets. It is at least as potent as aspirin but only in large doses. Positive results have been obtained with doses from 0.25 to 1 g of fresh garlic per kg per day. This is equivalent to a range from 5 to 20 averaged-sized (4 g) cloves of fresh garlic daily for a 175-pound person1.
