Insulin is a hormone, not an enzyme. It lowers blood glucose levels after a meal by causing cells to absorb glucose from the blood. Glucagon is a hormone that has the opposite effect, causing blood glucose levels to rise when they start to fall between meals. Epinephrine is another hor-mone that increases blood glucose levels in response to acute stress. Blood does not contain su-crose.
