Answer to Question 2

Prepared foods have been sold in retail shops and lodging venues for thousands of years. Prepared food was also available in coffee houses and tea houses in Europe from the seventeenth century onward. The word restaurant derives from the French word restaurant, meaning a soup to restore health, which was sold in retail shops. These retail shops evolved into modern restaurants around 1800.
