The basic goals of developing good nutritional habits are to maintain ideal body weight; eat a variety of foods
following the MyPlate model; avoid consuming too much fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol; eat foods with
adequate starch and ber; avoid consuming too much simple sugar and too much sodium; and if you drink
alcohol, do so in moderation.

Answer to Question 2

Approximately 60 of the body is water. Water is involved in all vital processes in the body and is the nutrient of
greatest concern to the physically active individual. In addition to the water contained in foods, it is recommended
that an additional 8 glasses of uids should be consumed daily.
