Credentials include state teachers licensure; national board certification, director credential, and CDA. The individual has demonstrated the capabilities necessary for successful participation in that profession and has the appropriate preparation. People who are credentialed are more likely to provide developmentally appropriate programs for young children.

Request copy of licensing requirements from appropriate regulatory agency; ensure appropriate zoning; obtain information from licensing agent regarding sanitation, fire, building, and public health office inspections; arrange for conferences all necessary regulatory agents; complete application and pay required fee to appropriate licensing agent; post license in conspicuous place in center; check expiration date and establish procedures to ensure renewal.
