(any five or more of the following):
1. When shopping, put perishable goods in the cart last.
2. Don't buy dented cans of food.
3. Don't buy products that are at or past their sell by or use by dates.
4. When bringing groceries home, put away refrigerated and frozen foods immediately.
5. If fresh meat or fish will not be eaten within two days, freeze it.
6. Thaw frozen foods in the refrigerator or microwave.
7. Wash your hands before preparing food.
8. Wash all fruit and vegetables.
9. Wash cutting boards, countertops, utensils, and surfaces with detergent and hot water after food prep.
10. Use a meat thermometer to confirm that meats are properly cooked.
11. Refrigerate leftovers within two hours, within one hour on hot days.
12. Prevent cross-contamination by using separate cutting boards and other surfaces for preparing and serving foods.
